How to Set Up Kids Edition on Any Amazon Echo Device
Want to give an old or spare Echo
speaker to your child? Turn it into the Kids Edition. However, Amazon has
specially launched Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition for the child that has a lot of
child-friendly features, such as FreeTime. These child-friendly features let
you set daily usage time limits, filter explicit contents, as well as review
your child’s activities. It means you can choose which radio stations, Audible
Books, playlists, and other activities your kid can access on their Echo
speaker.
But, if the Alexa speaker you’re giving to your child is Echo,
Echo Plus or Echo Dot, then possibly you’ll want to use these features on it.
Luckily, you can get all these parental control features on your these speakers
too without requiring any additional hardware. Here is how to set up kids
edition on any Amazon Echo device.
Setting up Amazon FreeTime on
an Echo speaker
You just need to enable FreeTime service on your Amazon Echo
speaker to access all these settings. Here is how.
1. Take the mobile device that has an Amazon
Alexa app and is connected to your Echo speaker.
2. Now, launch the ‘Alexa’ app.
3. Open the ‘Devices’ tab. It is the right-most
tab at the bottom of the main screen.
4. From the Devices screen, select ‘Echo &
Alexa’ option from the top.
5. On the next screen, you’ll see the available
Echo and Alexa devices, choose the ‘Echo’ speaker you want to set up for your
child. Tapping on an Echo will open the DEVICE SETTINGS for it.
6. Under the DEVICE SETTINGS, scroll down to the
GENERAL section and tap on ‘FreeTime.’
7. Now, enable the FreeTime by using the toggle
switch next to it. If the toggle switch turns into blue, it means the feature
is activated on your device. This will also open the FreeTime screen on your
mobile screen.
8. Tap on large yellow color ‘Setup Amazon
FreeTime’ button at the bottom. Now, you’ll be asked the details of your child,
including name, age, and gender of the kid.
9. Enter your Child’s name.
10. Select ‘Gender’ and ‘Birthdate’ of your
child.
11. From the Icon heading, pick an icon for the
child’s profile.
12. Check your entered information and tap
on ‘Add child’ to proceed.
13. Read the information displayed on the next screen, and
tap on ‘Add Child’ button, if you want to add another child profile. Otherwise,
tap on the ‘Continue’ button.
14. Now, you’ll see Hello screen asking you to enter
your Amazon password, type your password, and tap ‘Sign in.’
15. Read the information on the Parental Consent screen.
16. Then, scroll down and tap on ‘I agree’ to proceed.
17. Now, select the services you want in FreeTime. All the
services may be selected by default. If there is any service you don’t want to
add, then tap the toggle button next to it.
18. Scroll down and tap on the ‘Continue’ button at the
bottom.
FreeTime has been successfully enabled for the Echo device. If you
want to adjust time limits, modify age filter, allowed content, and more, then
you can visit, “parents.amazon.com” with any browser. You can also install
‘FreeTime’ app on your Android device to access and adjust these settings
quickly through your smartphone or tablet.
