Director Mike Flanagan Wants to Make a Film on DC Villain

Mike Flanagan wants to join the DC universe and direct a horror film based on Clay face, Batman’s villain.

The director of Haunting of Hill House shows his interest in making a film on the DC villain. Warner Bros. continuously wants to grow the DC Extended Universe. The director’s approach is an amazing way to increase the world further and introduce some new ideas.

The head of DC films, Walter Hamada, expressed that their target is to release at least six movies per year, with two exclusive HBO Max releases. According to that, the studio needs a bunch of projects. However, DC already has a lot in its bucket, including the spinoff The Trench and James Wan’s Aquaman 2. DC is famous for its superhero movie, which is far more different than horror. However, Flanagan’s interest in exploring the genre in a different way is a great opportunity for the studio to further expand its limit.

Flanagan is an American director and best known for his horror movie genres. Some of his best projects include Absentia, Oculus, Hush, Before I Wake, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gerald’s Game, and Doctor Sleep. He has also adapted Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House and Henry James’ novella The Turn of the Screw.

The director has also received much critical praise for his direction and portrayal of the screenplay characters. A few great Hollywood personalities, including Quentin Tarantino, William Friedkin, and Stephen King, have praised his works.

Recently, Flanagan was asked by one of his fans on Twitter which DC character he would want to work on. The director shared that he has been a huge Superman fan since he was a child. He further revealed his fascination for the DC villains and wrote that he would like to make a horror movie on Batman’s villain, Clay face.

However, Flanagan is not creating any such movie, for now, but might consider the idea of exploring Clay face’s story through a horror story. He is one of the best filmmakers in Hollywood. Flanagan has created some amazing content. His adapted films Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep were critically well-received films. The director knows his craft, and he can make any project huge.

Clay face has not yet been featured in many Batman movies. Hence the character probably is not the one fans would have thought for a solo film. But, Flanagan’s approach to exploring the less spoken villain would give the director a blank canvas to play with. Clay face’s character recently appeared on the animated series Harley Quinn, but the critically acclaimed filmmaker might not follow the same path.

It is yet uncertain whether Flanagan will be able to tell his version of the story of Clay face to the audience. However, only DC can make any decision on this matter. Hopefully, the studio will think through the whole idea before making any conclusion.
